Membership

One of the main ways people hear about the Performing Arts Collective is through our annual showcase. This performance opportunity is often why people choose to become a member, because we offer something “a bit different” compared to the usual festivals, recitals, and school productions. The interesting show themes combined with a diversity of genres, cultures, ages, and experience levels make PAC shows something to look forward to every year.

PAC coordinates with several other public and private events throughout the year as well, providing a varied entertainment package for local organizers. We can help you book more gigs like these, whether you’re an amateur looking to build experience, or a professional seeking more contacts.

A core part of our mission is to educate both members and the general public. You do not need to be a member to attend our workshops, and anyone can access our events calendar, but only members can list their events on the calendar for promotion.

Our rehearsal workshops, on the other hand, lead to a possible performing outcome. You may decide to become a member if you enjoy rehearsals and want to take your practice to the next level.

Some members join just to support our work. “Performing” may be part of our name, but anyone who enjoys our multitude of learning opportunities can benefit, whether or not they are interested in public performance.

Lifetime learning is for everyone - we’re all a beginner at something! Why not try a new art form?

If you teach a performing art, you may be interested in applying to teach a PAC workshop. We apply for funding every year to pay for space rentals, tutor fees, and promotion.

Take the risk out of hosting a workshop - we can help you find a venue, cover your hall expenses and tutor fee, and find participants.

“Full adult members” are eligible to teach a PAC workshop. Contact committee if you have a great idea for a workshop! We would love to hear from you and explore all the details further.

In addition to our own workshops and events, there are so many local resources, which can be hard to find when a lot of opportunities are “word of mouth.” PAC has hundreds of active members and a wide network of relationships related to the arts.

Taranaki’s arts community has been calling for more ways to find out about each other, such as through event calendars, lists of artists and venues, and arts journalism. PAC is working on filling some of these gaps, by helping and promoting each other, instead of waiting for official support.

PAC encourages collaborations between individuals, groups, and organizations. People’s natural tendency is to focus on others like themselves (background, education, profession, arts genre, etc) which can produce “silos” of similar performers isolated from other art forms and communities.

Through our workshops and events, as well as by request, PAC is in a position to connect the dots and see the possibilities, get people in touch with each other, and enable creativity that might not have otherwise come to light.

Whether you’re interested in a one-off performance idea or a longer term partnership, we may be able to help get the ball rolling.

The PAC committee is always working for you! Applying for funding, recruiting and auditioning acts, finding topics and tutors, writing reports, getting sponsorship - the list goes on. There is a lot of work behind the scenes to keep such a large cast of artists busy and satisfied, and on budget besides.

As an incorporated society, PAC has a constitution and democratic processes for getting things done. You can have your say any time by getting in touch with our Director. We warmly welcome new committee members or temporary volunteers at any time, and elections at our Annual General Meeting ensure that those who are most engaged will have their seat at the table.

What does “elevating” an art form mean? The simplest answer is to give it a platform. PAC does this in the literal and figurative senses, by providing the best theatrical experiences, educational opportunities, and promotional boosts that we can.

Many of us practice art forms that aren’t necessarily considered “high art” and might otherwise miss out on the limelight. Ethnic arts in particular can often be neglected in terms of getting the best venues, funding, and logistical support.

Every year, PAC has been getting bigger and better, with more professionalism in our operations and visibility in our community. With your support, we can reach even greater heights.
